Job Overview:

The Economic Development Associate plays a critical role in supporting economic growth initiatives within the community. This position assists with programs and projects designed to attract, retain, and expand businesses, improve workforce development, and enhance the overall economic vitality of the region. The Associate will collaborate with local businesses, government agencies, and community stakeholders to foster a business-friendly environment and support the strategic goals of the Economic Development Department.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Attraction and Retention:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to attract new businesses and industries to the area.
  • Support outreach efforts to retain and expand existing businesses by maintaining regular contact and addressing their needs.
  • Conduct research on economic trends, market conditions, and business opportunities.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for business development and attraction efforts.

Project Management:

  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of economic development projects and initiatives.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure timelines and objectives are met.
  • Assist in securing funding, grants, and incentives for development projects.

Workforce Development:

  • Collaborate with educational institutions and workforce organizations to promote job training and skill development programs.
  • Assist in organizing career fairs, workshops, and other initiatives aimed at connecting businesses with skilled workers.

Data Collection and Analysis:

  • Gather and analyze economic data, including demographic, industry, and labor market statistics, to inform development strategies.
  • Maintain and update databases of local businesses, industries, and economic resources.

Community Engagement:

  • Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, and government officials.
  • Attend and represent the organization at community events, meetings, and networking opportunities.
  • Assist in the preparation of marketing materials, newsletters, and reports that highlight economic development achievements and opportunities.

Grant Writing and Funding:

  • Identify and assist with applying for grants and funding opportunities related to economic development.
  • Track funding sources and assist with the reporting requirements for awarded grants.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in economic development, business development, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret data and market trends.
  • Proven communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with GIS, CRM, or economic development software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal economic development programs and resources is a bonus.
