This role will report out of The Collier Companies Florida Home Office in Gainesville, which offers beautiful natural areas, a temperate climate and tremendous educational, cultural, and commercial opportunities. The role of the Public Relations Expert is to build, maintain and grow media and business relationships in support of The Collier Companies. 

As the media content curator for The Collier Companies, this position works to build relationships with local media, and assists in developing strategies within The Collier Companies Marketing Department to support the growth of the brand across all business channels. With a focus on our business branding and marketing, the sky is the limit when it comes to creativity. This position is responsible for content creation, as well as the successful execution of the day-to-day operation of our social media strategy. We’re looking for an expert who must have superior communication skills, excellent grammar, attention to detail, & possesses a self-starter attitude with the ability to take direction & work independently to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

Your Skills – Show Us What You Got:

  • Preferred degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or related field
  • Three years of professional experience in public relations
  • Proven expertise in media outreach and placement
  • Must have experience crafting and pitching media releases and working with outlets to secure coverage
  • Persuasive and strategic communications skills
  • Exceptional storyteller, writer, editor, and proofreader
  • Deadline driven, reliable, responsible, and accurate with an attention to detail
  • Knowledge of local media, media relationships and journalistic practices
  • Creative, idea generator and collaborative team player
  • Must be able to have client virtual meetings to discuss client needs, strategy and implementation 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement public relations strategies that engage the community in support of The Collier Companies and result in consistent media exposure.
  • Coordinate day-to-day PR and media relations activities, including but not limited to strategically crafting and disseminating media pitches, conducting 1:1 media outreach and writing, and distributing press releases.
  • Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts with journalists, media organizations (print/radio/tv), county communications contacts, county politicians and business partners to support The Collier Companies.
  • Collaborate with directors and colleagues to respond proactively to issues requiring public relations or potential crisis communications support.
  • Monitor and track all media placements.
