University of Florida Commercialization

The University of Florida's Sid Martin Biotechnology Incubator program accelerates the successful development of fledgling companies with early recruitment of leadership, introductions to investor groups, plus 50,000 SF of labs, offices, and animal facilities, greenhouses, $1million of shared scientific/business equipment, and other specialized facilities. SMBI also developed the Florida Biodatabase, a free, online database of every bioscience company in Florida. In 2007 SMBI came in 2nd in an international competition for Technology Incubator of the Year, losing only to a large federally funded incubator in France. To date SMBI companies have attraced more than $650 million in equity, contract and grant funding.
