Gainesville, FL – The Hippodrome Theatre is thrilled to announce the upcoming production of Heidi Schreck's critically acclaimed play, What the Constitution Means to Me, running from October 11 to October 27, 2024, with a special preview performance on October 9. This Pulitzer Prize finalist and 2019 Tony Award nominee, celebrated for its blend of humor, hope, and deep human insight, is a compelling examination of the U.S. Constitution's impact on American lives and its role in shaping the future.

What the Constitution Means to Me explores the Constitution’s relevance through the eyes of Schreck, who, at the age of 15, won debate competitions nationwide defending this foundational document. In this remarkable work, Schreck revisits her teenage self to explore how the Constitution has affected four generations of women in her family and to pose the question: what does the U.S. Constitution truly mean today?

Described as "uproariously funny, wrenchingly moving, critically challenging & politically inspiring" by David Cole of The New York Review of Books, this play has received widespread acclaim for its moving and timely commentary. The Seattle Times lauds it as a must-see, while The Washington Post praises it as "endearingly funny and deeply affecting," highlighting its deep connection to current American issues.

In addition to its Tony Award nominations, What the Constitution Means to Me has garnered several prestigious awards including the Obie Award, the Off-Broadway Alliance Award, and the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award, solidifying its place as a groundbreaking theatrical work.
