The Currys have developed their brand of homegrown, harmony-rich Americana through summers of writing and performing on the Florida Gulf Coast. Brothers Jimmy and Tommy Curry and cousin Galen Curry began with acoustic performances in local restaurants and oyster bars, but over time the trio has gained a regional following, performing regularly at festivals and venues around the Southeast.
In August of 2012, The Currys headlined a tour across Ireland which was the subject of a PBS documentary. The following year the three Currys teamed up with bassist Matt Kauper and drummer Johnny Humphreys to track their debut record, financing the process with a successful Kickstarter campaign. Released in the spring of 2014, the resulting album Follow is a testament to the countless hours spent in musical symbiosis, shaping the words and melodies of three distinct singer/songwriters into one cohesive voice.
Jewel Box Concerts at the Thomas Center are provided by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department in cooperation with Shakerag Culture Center, Inc. and are sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.
This intimate monthly concert series features national and international touring artists in the Historic Thomas Center's Spanish Court.
