Morningbell Performs in Gainesville at the 'Free Fridays' Concert Series
Date:
July 11, 2014
Time:
8:00 PM - 10:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
The indie, psychedelic rock band Morningbell will perform at the Bo Diddley Community Plaza Friday, July 11 as a part of the “Free Fridays” concert series. The Gainesville-based band is well established across Florida, and annually tours the east coast. Their melodic sounds, similar to Pink Floyd, won them the chance to play at Bonnaroo in 2008, named “best festival” by Rolling Stone magazine. Morningbell shared the stage with Bela Fleck, Broken Social Scene and Solomon Burke at the acclaimed festival. The band has also performed with Starlight Mints, Robert Sledge from Ben Folds Five, Man Man and Holopaw on separate occasions. They have also been featured in MTV's “Real World: Sydney,” Blender magazine, Pitchfork, The Washington Post, All Music Guide and Americana UK.
Brothers Travis Atria (lead vocals and guitar) and Eric Atria (bass guitar and backup vocals) formed the band while living in Miami. The band moved to Gainesville in 2003. Current members also include Stacie Thrushman on keyboard and Chris Hillman on drums.
The “Free Fridays” concert will be the band's first performance since their 10 year anniversary concert in November 2013. After touring in support of their critically acclaimed sixth studio album, “Boa Noite,” the band slowed down upon the arrival of Eric Atria and Stacie Thrushman’s daughter. Morningbell continues to work on new material including a live, in-studio video and audio recording with Medusa Studios, as well as groundwork on a seventh album. The “Free Fridays” show will feature material from “Boa Noite,” as well as the rest of the band's back catalog.
The Morningbell concert at “Free Fridays” is sponsored by classic rock radio station Wind-FM (92.5, 95.5, 107.9).
The 2014 “Free Fridays” concert series is produced by the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. The concerts will play each Friday night this year from Friday, May 2 through Friday, Oct. 24 from 8-10 p.m. at the Bo Diddley Community Plaza, which is located at 111 E. University Ave. To view the complete “Free Fridays” 2014 schedule, please visit the Cultural Affairs Division website at www.gvlculturalaffairs.org.
