Assistant Comptroller
Spherion Gainesville, FL has a local client that is seeking an experienced Assistant Comptroller with strong AP Management skills to join their financial services team - overseeing reporting, compliance, and internal controls.
Location: Gainesville, FL
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Pay Rate: $30.00/hr + Benefits
Position: Direct Hire, Full-Time, Permanent

Responsibilities
- Support Comptroller and CFO in financial planning, reporting, compliance, and internal control management.
- Oversee complex accounting and financial transactions across multiple funds.
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial reports; conduct fiscal analyses for decision support.
- Compile financial data for ad hoc reporting and special projects.
- Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts, resolving variances/discrepancies.
- Perform internal audits for compliance; provide support for external audits.
- Conduct audits of travel reimbursements and other financial activities, correcting noncompliance.
- Evaluate and recommend improvements to accounting practices and business processes/workflows.
- Manage and supervise AP and expense reporting functions (invoice processing, payments, reconciliations, team performance).
- Monitor encumbrance activity and purchasing reports.
- Provide training and support for AP, travel, and expense reporting functions; implement preventative measures for common errors.
- Lead the P-Card and Travel Reimbursement programs, ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
- Communicate accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements; maintain data integrity.
- Comply with all rules, regulations (e.g., FERPA), and confidentiality requirements.

Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Required Experience: Four (4) years of professional experience in accounting, finance, or related areas (eight years of combined education and experience may be considered).
- Technical: Knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.
- Preferred: CPA licensure. Prior experience in a higher education setting. Experience with Workday.
